About the project:
In the 2020 January school holidays we returned to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre for the third consecutive year with another jam packed two week learn to skate sessions where we transformed a car park into a legitimate skate park consisting of ledges, manual pads, kickers, rails, quarter pipes and more.
Not only was the car park transformed into a skatepark, we also created a collaborative workshop space with a custom historical timeline wall paying tribute to the progressive roots of skateboarding inclusive of nostalgic print media imagery, board shapes and design, and key terrain that shaped the industry into what it is to date.
The space was designed to inspire participants to create and design their own skateboard graphic or tote bag to take home under the watchful eye of internationally renowned Art mentor, “We Buy Your Kids” Sonny Day and local artist Courtenay McCue of “CRT Designs”.
The program was topped off with an all ages open skate jam night with music, skate movies and drinks for all that saw over #2500 participants visit the famous Gold Coast centre with a 75% repeat visitation rate to the centre during the summer school holiday period.
